Ducks Comments After BYU's 38-8 Victory

Las Vegas - Oregon Head Coach Mike Bellotti
''We didn't play very well. I think we got out-coached, out-played and out-hustled. We didn't win the battle at the line of scrimmage. I give credit to BYU. They played with great discipline and they are a very, very good team. We knew what they were going to do. We worked on stopping it. We, also, performed very poorly offensively and were undisciplined in the first half. I thought we had practiced very well leading up to this. The fact that we didn't do some things, that is what surprised me.''

On BYU's defense: ''They did a great job of picking up our receivers down the field. I think we were probably a little impatient in terms of dumping the ball off. I think both quarterbacks took a very long time to get started in this game. We didn't find a way to get them in rhythm.''

On BYU quarterback John Beck: ''I think John Beck is a great quarterback. We didn't mount much of a pass rush today. Obviously, with a three to four man pass rush we tried loading up on some of their best receivers and he still beat us in double coverage sometimes or created situations in which we couldn't double them. Again, you've got to give BYU credit. He did a tremendous job in finding receivers.

On showing up ready to play with passion and heart: ''You've got to ask the players. I think they have passion. I think they have heart. We did not play very well. So then again you can check with them any time.''

On his comment of BYU not being a mid-level Pac-10 team: ''Well right now we didn't play like a mid-level Pac-10 team right now. But no, my opinion has not changed.''

On Oregon's receivers in the passing game: ''I think we dropped several passes. But then again I give BYU's coaches credit. They mounted a pass rush. They did a great job of cutting us down the field. We knew that. We don't face that many teams that do as much zone as they did.''

On an effort to run the ball: ''Early on yes. But once you get down by three scores. I don't think we ran the ball very well. I don't think we blocked at the line of scrimmage as well as we are capable of. Once again, I say we didn't do as good of a job as we needed to so maybe we weren't ready to play.''

Oregon defensive back J.D. Nelson
On the difficulty of covering BYU's spread: ''Having the quarterback that they did and the receivers outside, we have to cover the receivers first and a lot of the time we were leaving the running backs back in the backfield in man-to-man. There is a lot of field out there to throw dekes and unders to at times they just run out there open into space.''

Oregon offensive lineman Enoka Lucas:
On BYU's defensive line compared to other lines they've played against: ''The defense of BYU game-planned really good against us. It is nothing of a line that I've never seen before. They were good. Give them credit, they won tonight.
