Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl & Raising Cane?s Team up with Cell Phones for Soldiers

Organization providing calling cards to Southern Nevada Troops stationed overseas

LAS VEGAS - The Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl and the local ownership of restaurant chain Raising Cane's have partnered with the group Cell Phones for Soldiers to raise funds to provide Southern Nevada troops deployed abroad with prepaid calling cards, bowl Executive Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy announced Friday.
Cell Phones for Soldiers is an organization founded by teens Brittany and Rob Bergquist that collects used cellular telephones and accessories and sells them to ReCellular, who then recycles the products. Proceeds are then used by Cell Phones for Soldiers to purchase prepaid calling cards that are distributed to members of the United States Military.
''The Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl always strives to become increasingly involved in our community and with our game being played each year right in the middle of the holiday season, helping to get our soldiers a chance to talk with their loved ones back home is a wonderful cause,'' Kunzer-Murphy said. ''We and Raising Cane's urge everyone to donate their old cell phones to help Cell Phones for Soldiers help members of our military.''
Donations of used cell phones and accessories will be accepted at the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl XVII game on Dec. 20, 2008, from noon to 5 p.m. PT at the Bud Light Pregame Tailgate Party located at Sam Boyd Stadium. The annual bowl kicks off at 5 p.m. and will pit the top selection of the Mountain West Conference vs. a team from the Pac-10 Conference.

Donations are also currently being accepted at:
Raising Cane's four current Las Vegas area locations:
1120 E. Flamingo
7550 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
4655 W. Charleston Blvd.
5660 Centennial Center Blvd

Absolute Dental's 18 locations throughout the valley

In addition, Raising Cane's will be accepting monetary donations at all four of their Las Vegas locations.

With each phone donated, you'll receive a ''Thank You'' card with various offers from the participating sponsors, including a commemorative T-Shirt from Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl XVII, a buy-one get-one free lunch from Raising Cane's and a $100 savings voucher for Absolute Dental.

Donations will be accepted through December 20, with the donation check and phones being presented at Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl XVII.
