Player Of The Week 2012 Season Review

Record Voting Highlights Second Year Of Facebook Program

LAS VEGAS - The MAACO Bowl Las Vegas just completed its second season of conducting weekly Facebook player-of-the-week polls, driven by fan votes, recognizing exemplary on-field play within the bowl's two partner conferences.

The MAACO Bowl Las Vegas Pac-12 and Mountain West Player of the Week Presented by SEVEN Magazine program ended with a bang this season with record-setting turnout numbers both overall and for a single player as Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr shattered the previous votes record when he received 3,095 just this week.

In the Pac-12, the Grand Canyon State schools fared the best in 2012 as Arizona and Arizona State each boasted four winners during the season while UCLA had three and Cal and Washington State rounded out the winners with one each.

On the Mountain West side, Fresno State dominated the competition with five winners overall. Wyoming and Nevada were the other schools with multiple honors with two each while Boise State, New Mexico, Colorado State and UNLV all had one player win this fall, meaning seven of the league's 10 football-playing members had at least one honoree.

Individually, three players won in three different weeks: FS QB Carr, UCLA RB Johnathan Franklin and Arizona RB Ka'Deem Carey. ASU QB Taylor Kelly and Nevada RB Stefphon Jefferson were the only other players to win multiple times with two honors apiece.

Each week, players from both the Pac-12 and Mountain West conferences were selected for nomination and then posted for voting. All college football fans were welcome to cast their vote starting on Mondays at www.facebook.com/lvbowl. The program will resume after the first weekend of the 2013 college football season.
