#RPLVB Matchup One Of The Highest Ranked Bowl Games

LAS VEGAS – The Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl (#RPLVB) will host, for the third time in its history, two teams ranked in the top 25 by the BCS poll as No. 20 Fresno State will take on No. 25 USC.

The two other times in #RPLVB history that two teams ranked in the BCS top-25 faced each other was in 2009 when No. 14 BYU beat No. 18 Oregon State 44-20. The second time was in 2010 when No. 10 Boise State bested No. 19 Utah 26-3.

ESPN writer Mark Schlabach ranked all 35 bowl games from 1-35 and the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl ranks No. 13 overall and ranked it the third best bowl game before New Year’s Day.

CBS’s Tom Fornelli ranked the #RPLVB No. 11 of 35 and pointed out that it will be the first bowl game that boasts two ranked teams.

Finally, Graham Watson of Yahoo! Sports gives the #RPLVB its highest ranking amongst the experts by slating it No. 9 of 35.  Watson also ranks it as the second best bowl game before 2014, only behind the Valero Alamo Bowl.

This year's gridiron battle in the Entertainment Capital of the World is also one of only four non-BCS bowl games to feature a contest between teams both in the top-25 of the latest BCS rankings. The others are No. 24 Duke vs. No. 21 Texas A&M in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, No. 19 Wisconsin vs. No. 9 South Carolina in the Capital One Bowl and No. 8 Missouri vs. No. 12 Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl.

The Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl, which is owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television (ERT), will be broadcast nationally on ABC. Kickoff between Fresno State and USC is set for 12:30 p.m. PT.
